Project
Synthesis of artificial bone biomaterials
Abstract
This study explains the synthesis of Hydroxyapatite Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 which is chemically and structurally similar to mineral phase of human bone, it has capable to form direct chemical bond with body hard tissues. Hydroxyapatite (HA) produced in this way is weak in toughness and strength and can only be used in non load bearing orthopedic applications. Phase purity and good crystallinity was checked using XRD Thermal patience of HA was investigated by Thermogravemtric analysis (TGA) which showed its stability at high temperature. Vicker hardness tests performed shows that hardness of 5GPa, which is in agreement with standard values. Wet precipitation method used in synthesis of HA, was found to be very fast and cost effective process to synthesize bio-compatible Hydroxyapatite, which can be used in tooth filling material, bone cement and artificial bone making.
